游牧與農業文化交流/Interactions between Nomadic and Agricultural Cultures
Throughout successive dynasties, the Chinese state existed within a historical context of constant interaction with surrounding peoples and civilizations. This course, taught by leading scholars, will focus on the cultural and ethnic exchanges between Central, Northern, and East Asia and the Central Plains, analyzing the historical dynamics of cross-cultural and interethnic challenges and responses. By adopting a broader range of perspectives, the course seeks to deepen understanding of the hybridity and multiplicity of what is often referred to as Chinese civilization. At the same time, it will also shed light on the long-term historical relationships and mutual influences between the so-called core and peripheries of Asian civilizations.
