日本視野下的中國考古學及古文字/In the Japanese Context: Archaeology and Ancient Scripts in China
Japan has long been a major center for Sinological research. In the early twentieth century, with the rise of archaeology, Japanese scholars began to approach ancient China with new academic perspectives and methodologies. Beyond applying archaeological theories and drawing upon excavation findings, this movement also indirectly stimulated Japanese interest and exploration in ancient Chinese scripts. Since research in these areas today falls under what would be considered inherently interdisciplinary fields, it has seldom been addressed in traditional discussions of Sinology.
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the achievements of Japanese scholarship in Chinese archaeology and palaeography, thereby broadening their vision of Sinology and helping them gain a general understanding of the distinctive characteristics and developments in Japanese research.
