技藝與美德/ Skill and Virtue
The intellectual traditions of East Asian philosophy are remarkably diverse, encompassing the three major traditions of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism, as well as a wide range of other discourses and schools of thought, including cosmology, metaphysics, theories of self-cultivation, literary theory, and historiography.
This course approaches East Asian philosophy through the lens of practical concerns, introducing its key ideas and distinctive features. Central discussions will address questions such as: How can human beings live better lives? How can one become a better person? What is the relationship between spiritual cultivation and practice? How can individuals coexist harmoniously with others? Through engagement and dialogue with prominent scholars from both Taiwan and abroad, the course also invites reflection on the contributions of East Asian philosophical traditions to the field of practical philosophy.
